The unworthy servant stands under the stern rebuke of his master, his face lowered and troubled while the master reaches toward him in judgment. The close composition focuses on the confrontation at the heart of Jesus’ Parable of the Talents, where a servant hides what was entrusted to him instead of using it faithfully.
